COVID-19 Costs
BCBSTX is waiving your share of the costs for COVID-19 testing and testing-related visits until the end of the Health and Human Services COVID-19 public health emergency order.
This means:
- Lab tests to diagnose COVID-19 are covered at no cost.
- Testing-related visits are covered at no cost to you when you see a primary care provider in your health plan’s network, either in person or using telehealth.
- Cost-sharing was also waived for COVID-19 treatment for members in a fully insured group, individual, Medicare (excluding Part D), Medicare Supplement, or Medicaid health plan. The waiver covered treatment from April 1 through Dec. 31, 2020. As of January 1, 2021, members will be responsible for the out-of-pocket costs associated with claims for treatment.
- Self-funded customers have some choices about how we administer COVID-19 treatment coverage for their employees. Their dates for cost-sharing waivers may differ.

- Cost-share will be waived for COVID-19 related services only when providers bill the appropriate ICD-10 code and modifier CS
- Modifier CR or condition code DR can also be billed instead of CS
- Services not related to COVID-19 will have standard customer cost-share

Will Aetna cover the cost of COVID-19 treatment for its Commercial members? (As of 3/3/2021)
For all Aetna-insured Commercial plans, Aetna waived member cost-sharing for inpatient admissions for treatment of COVID-19 or health complications associated with COVID-19 through February 28, 2021. This waiver may remain in place in states where mandated. Self-insured plan sponsors offered this waiver at their discretion.
