How does an iron infusion work
Your iron infusion is a procedure that will take place at a Life Savers ER location This allows patients who are receiving the infusion to be monitored by clinical staff. During the infusion process, iron is delivered into the body intravenously, meaning it enters the veins via a needle, similar to the way a blood sample is taken. The whole process lasts 3-4 hours and patients will be seated the entire time they receive the infusion.
How many iron infusions are needed for treatment?
You may need to have the infusion carried out a number of times. This will depend on the goals that your doctor has for your treatment and the underlying cause of your iron-deficiency anemia. In most cases, it takes several iron infusions to bring the body’s iron levels up to the appropriate levels. What is “appropriate” for your own situation will depend on many factors and your doctor will be able to speak to you about this.
How effective is intravenous iron
It may take a few weeks after you start the infusion to experience a noticeable difference in how you feel.
